How to Glow Up in 7 days – Back to School Glow Up

This guide will teach you how to glow up in 7 days. Aside from the changing leaves and ‘pumpkin spiced lattes’, coming into autumn also means going back to school for many of us. Wether you’re beginning a new chapter by starting college/high school, or you’re back for another year of school, it is the perfect opportunity to work towards showing the best version of yourself.

Going back to school can be a daunting experience for many as it’s common to feel insecure around this time in our lives. This one-week back to school glow up ‘challenge’ will help you get confident and build up your courage to be that girl.

Keep in mind that this challenge can be done by literally anyone who just wants to glow up, regardless if they’re going back to school or not!

How to glow up in 7 days – to last a lifetime

Reminder – This 7 day glow up guide is supposed to help you build better habits and glow up over time. It is not a quick fix, because that doesn’t exist. Glowing up is about creating realistic habits that you can continue doing long after the challenge is completed.

Let’s get into it!

But first, remember to pin this post so you can always come back to it!

Day 1 – Skin

Okay now let’s start. The number one step to feel good in your own skin is, you guessed it – taking care of your skin! Invest in some good skin care products, and start building a reliable skin care routine.

You might consider investing in some make up as well. Nothing crazy, but a trusty make up routine goes a long way to boost your confidence. If you’re not into wearing a lot of make up, I would recommend simply focusing on blush/bronzer, some mascara and possibly some lipgloss if you feel like it.

Day 2 – Hair

Day 2 of the ‘How to glow up in 7 days challenge’ is all about hair and hairstyles. People tend to feel more attractive when their appearance is intentional. That includes styling your hair in some way. It doesn’t need to be some elaborate up-do, but you will look a lot more put together if you put some sort of effort into your hair. This could be curling it, or simply putting it up in a hair clip, whatever you feel comfortable with.

If you don’t want to spend time every morning doing your hair, don’t worry. One of the most time-saving, effortless solutions I’ve come across is heatless curlers. They work their magic when you sleep and you wake up with gorgeous curls. Plus the added bonus of not having to put any heat on your hair.

If you still don’t feel like dealing with hairstyles, at least take care of your hair. If it’s healthy, it will look good. Invest in a good hair care regime including a nourishing hair mask at least once a week.

Day 3 – Style

My philosophy is as follows: Your appearance is made up of 1/3 face, 1/3 hair and 1/3 outfit. You need at least 2/3 to look put together. So if you don’t have the energy to spend time on your hair, put more effort into your make up and outfit, and vice versa.

This glow up guide is all about building habits that stick and setting yourself up for confidence that lasts well after this week is done. Therefore, when it comes to clothes, you might consider building a closet of timeless pieces that adhere to your personal style. Or if you haven’t found your style yet, discover outfits that make you feel pretty and confident. Nevertheless, the keyword here is timeless. We want clothes that are good quality. Yes, they may be a bit pricier, but because they are timeless, they will continue to be something you reach for in your closet for a long time.

I would recommend getting a few basic pieces that you can layer and switch out.

Day 4 – Staying Active

Exercise is so important. Wether it’s weightlifting, attending a yoga class, going for a run or just taking a walk, anything that gets you moving is good for you. Not only for your appearance and confidence but also for your mind. Exercising can do wonders for anxiety and stress, which is something many students deal with when going back to school.

Here are some ideas to stay active through the day even if you’re busy:

  • Skip the elevator and take the stairs
  • If you can, walk or bicycle to school/work instead of driving/public transport.
  • Get a walking pad to use while you’re studying/working or watching TV
  • Try to make time for a 30 minute home workout

Day 5 – Eating Better

Everything from bloating, hormone imbalance, high cortisol levels, to stress and anxiety can be linked to what we eat. This doesn’t mean you need to go on a crazy strict diet, (seriously, don’t do that unless you’ve spoken with a doctor). Just be mindful of what you put in your body and be gentle with yourself.

Try to cut down on foods that aren’t necessarily good for you, like junk food. Consider getting into a routine of cooking your own meals instead of eating out or getting a takeaway. This is much more healthy for your body, and your wallet!

Day 6 – Declutter

A healthy body requires a healthy space. It’s time to declutter your room/house. Get rid of things that you don’t need. Cleaning up your living space will make you feel so much more peaceful.

This also applies to your mental space. Declutter your head. A perfect way to do this is to start journaling. Get those negative thoughts out of your head and start filling it with positive ones, words of affirmation and goals. Consider ‘The Five Minute Journal’. It’s a great way to express your thoughts without it being overwhelming.

Day 7 – Staying Organised

Congratulations, you made it to day 7 of the “How to glow up in 7 days” challenge! This is all about establishing your glow up as long-lasting habits. As mentioned, even though this is a 7 day ‘challenge’ it is meant to inspire actual change and improvement in your life.

Consider getting a planner to keep track of your habits. This is a fun way to stay productive, especially for back to school as you can track your school work as well.
